Lithuanian Standards Board established
on the 25th of April 1990 is an institution of the executive power of
the Republic of Lithuania, within its province taking part in establishing
and implementing the policy of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania
within standardization, quality assurance fields and carrying out other
functions provided by the Laws of the Republic of Lithuania and Government
Resolutions.

LST as a national standards body follows international and European
standartization principles in its activities and represents the Republic
of Lithuania within International Organization for Standardization (ISO),
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), European Committee for
Standardization (CEN), European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization
(CENELEC) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) taking
active part in their activities. LST establishes and develops standardization system, sets up technical
committees for the preparation of Lithuanian standards as well as organizes
their preparation, adopts, publishes and distributes Lithuanian standards
which are applied on a voluntary basis, establishes order on adoption
of international, European and foreign standards as Lithuanian standards,
seeks that copyright of International and European standardization organizations
is not infringed in Lithuania, adopts international and European standards
as Lithuanian standards. LST has prepared and implements programme on adoption of the most
important European standards as Lithuanian standards, participates in
implementation of European Union directives. Activities of technical committees
(65 TCs established as for 2002-10-01) are based on the consensus principle,
i.e. interested parties (producers, consumers and representatives of state,
scientific and public organizations) make decisions by consensus.
Technical Commission considers the issues related with the set up and
restructuring of technical committees, assessment of the procedures of
standardization work planning as well as the conflict of interests in
standardization work.
Lithuanian Codex Alimentarius Committee coordinates activity of Agriculture
and Foodstuff Technical Committees in conformity with the fields of activity
of international Codex Alimentarius Commission, analyzes draft standards
and related documents by international Codex Alomentarius Commission.
Consumer Commission is guided in its activity by the documents of ISO
Committee on Consumer Policy (COPOLCO) and European Association for the
Coordination of Consumer Representation in Standardization (ANEC). This
commission coordinates consumer actions related with definite standardization
activities.
Standardization Council deals with strategical and inter-branch standardization
matters.
There are following division within LST: Standardization division 1, Standardization
division 2, Certification, Planning and Proofreading, Publishing and Distribution
as well as Information Centre and Standards Library.
